Now that I’m older, I see her as someone who once wanted to do good, but became twisted by the job and it became more about her than the job. I’ve worked with ppl who forget in their misery that they work for a place and not the other way around. Nowadays if a job is like that people just leave. I’m jelly of new gens being taught this when they taught ours to just shut up and be a mean pissy angry Ratched while they run off with our taxes.

This was the sadest scene. Richie was quite fine, Miss Rached , if she was a trained proffesional should have scene the boy was quite fine and scared of his mother. They should have put him on a different therapy. Instead Nurse Rached was determined to confine him, using the threat of reporting the boys misadventure to the mother. All guilt and shame and Richie committed suicide. I HATED NURSE RACHED AT THIS TIME. She is the WACKO. She should be a patient at that sanitarium!

There is no doubt that some people who work in medicine have absolutely no right to be there. There are certain people in that profession and also in law who are supremely evil. I refer for example to Harold Shipman and Ted Bundy. One a doctor. The other learned law. However in spite of people like that I would say that the vast majority of medical people are very caring. You see just because some monster can study and pass exams unfortunately does in absolutely no way qualify a person for that job. Some are so unfit for that profession. I've seen it and the lady who acted there really did her research. She was a fantastic actress . She said and I quote " nurse ratched is someone who life stopped for a long time ago". Whatever you feel about the subject matter her performance is amazing.

I think this is the moment that Nurse Ratched revealed her villianous nature. She knew exactly how Billy would react when she threatened to tell his mother, and when he kills himself, she acts like it's just another day at the office.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Exorcist! Two of the most amazing films ever made and she absolutely was amazing in both!

While this scene is the culmination of everything finally closed with MacMurphy's horrific end, one of her most absolutely chillin 0:00 g moments is the staff meeting! She has the opportunity to rid herself of MacMurphy the source of all this disorder and chaos and set the ward right back to how its always been! Yet she sweet talks the administration, who have referred to her as one of their FINEST NURSES, into keeping Mac on the ward , where make no mistake, she had every intention to destroy him.....in my mind where Mac failed was seeing her for what she really was! Obviously he knew she was sicker than ANYBODY on that ward, but he did not realize the danger he was truly in serious danger and did not realize it......i love this movie! Some of the best scenes have no words just looks between Nurse Ratched and Mac,Her absolute disdain for him and his chaos! And his digging, working figuring her out! Just amazing dichotomy!

My Mother was worse

I played Nurse Ratched in my high school production of One Flew play, and I specifically avoided watching this movie until the show’s run was through because of how iconic I knew Louise’ performance was. I knew I would just end up trying to imitate it. Such an incredible role.

What sells the character for me is the second layer that’s somehow always present on her face. Even when she’s scowling and deadly serious, she always looks like she’s barely suppressing a sense of sadistic glee.

Then she played The Grandmother in the Original Version of Flowers In The Attic. She did it because she needed to prove she was in control even though she wasn't. With her the patients existed but with mcmurphy the patients "lived life to the fullest" The fishing trip was brilliant.

she was also amazing in Invaders from Mars

I was rooting for her through the whole movie.
